My 1956 Holiday 98 2dr Hardtop

Here is a pic of my 56. I am having carb problems. The car runs great till it warms up. When i try to adjust the mixture screws the driver side one has no effect , pass side idle goes up and down a bit. once it warms up It acts like it has a miss . I added a pertronix system to the dist , that evened out idle nice and smooth, until its operating tempature. I rebuilt the carb this past spring and fought with it all summer. Any ideas . thanks

Don't know if I have posted this on here before but has anyone ever seen one of these? It's an electrohome aftermarket radio for 56 Oldsmobiles. I bought it a few years back from Canada to take it apart and make it a cassette player but I felt real bad about taking this one apart since I never heard of any others like it. I might be wrong they might be a dime a dozen but I sure have looked around for another.

I originally bought it to cut up the face plate to install a tape player since it has that look to it. Then I looked around to see if I messed up if I could have a back up and could not find another. Now the plan is to make some type of coffee table out of the full dash so it's safe for now

I have a wonderbar radio in mine. It worked great until recently, keeps blowing a fuse. I am on the fence about converting it to FM. Hemmings has quite a few antique radio repair places listed. I called a couple and they want about $450.00 for a conversion to FM. I hate to destroy the original wonderbar. I have a couple of the standard 56 radios that I could use instead. The guys I called want a 3 month turn around time.

I can recommend these guys here, they changed my 56 Olds Radio to a perfect sound machine and it still looks as it did before!!

I know this sounds kindof hokey, but my Dad did it in his 56 Tbird, And I will do it to my Olds.
He took a 119.00 stereo from Cosco and just strapped it up under the dash, back far enough that you cant see it unless you lay on the seat.
Plugged the stock antenna and power to the new unit, leaving the light on in the old radio.
Then he ran 2 smaller new speakers pointing straight down under the dash. (also out of sight)
He uses the remote that came with the new stereo to work the tunes, AND its Ipod compatible, AND no holes, and every thing is removable.
Less than 150.00 bucks ,it sounds good, its easy to use.
Some times, that old guy is pretty smart.

Hi Newbie here,
lots of good info and I love the pic's. Here's my 1956 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible I looked 20 years for one found this 60 miles form home and it was bought used here in 1960! The convert was a barn find (stored in 68?) and looks like it up close. In 1988 I bought my first 1956 Oldsmobile It's a Super 88 Deluxe Holliday Sedan whew! BTW it's a 4dr hardtop.

Thank you, Over the last 20 years I upgraded the old Olds, I repainted her in 1990, bumpers re plated in following years, engine and trans detailed in 95. new Diamondback's and front suspension 1999, interior in NOS cloth and new leather 2000 and so on. The longest it was non drivable was less than 2 months and this car has never been completely dismantled.

He was advertising a '56 Starfire for a long time - I suspect he sold it and now it getting rid of his extra parts.

BTW - I will make a genuine effort to get that window track stuff going for you this weekend...just been crazy at home and at work

Parts needed

Hi Again, I need wing vent housing left and right for my 1956 Oldsmobile, the chrome part that holds the vents. These could be off a 2 door hardtop or convertible. I am looking for pit free units please. Thanks, Kurt

I am about to take a trip down a similar road that Erit (hialeah56) went on. Just received my EZ Wiring wire harness. The only difference between mine and his is mine is the all black one. I ordered it because it had the "buy it now" option.... let's see how this works out. I'll let everybody know how it goes.
Also I am probably going to do my front windshield gasket either starting tomorrow or when I get back from leave. I'll post pictures and let everybody know of my woes as they arrive.

Just take your time with it and you'll do fine. Do you have a color wiring diagram for the 56? If you don't let me know so I can post a picture, you'll need it when you get to the column and some other areas. There's one in the shop manual but if you have a reprint manual it's in black and white and pretty much worthless

also if you switched over to an internal regulated alternator this is the wiring diagram for the three wire type. The one in the book has you hooking constant power to the #1 post instead of #2

Have any of you changed to the spin on oiul filter yet?I cannot get my canister to stop dripping and it bugs me that it kinda rubs the exhaust manifold coupling ring.Where did you purchase the adapter from and what filter do you use. Thanks Glen

Erit, I do have it. I picked up a digital copy of the Shop Manual back when I first got the car. It looks like I am doing the windshield tomorrow then will be tackling the wiring when I get back from spending time with the family. Both are necessary evils that will pay off in the end. I'll post pictures in my window leaks thread (https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...dow-leaks.html) that I started a while back that has a link to your video and also the pictures from 360scamp.

Also if anybody needs the shop manual I am sure we can work out a way for you to get it. It's 115mb just let me know and I will do what I can to get it to you.
