Smile '53 rocket 88 headers

Looking for a new set of headers to fit a 78' era olds 350 motor installed in a '53 rocket 88 coupe. main issue is need headers that will clear setting box on the '53 rocket 88. i am a corvette guy but this search is for my son who LOVES Oldsmobiles. I want to help him and he has seen one set that he failed to grab when they were on ebay. any help greatly appreciated. looking for bolt on set. of course custom made is an option but my son is on a budget. arent't we all?

Would love to hear from '53 rocket 88 owner that has put headers on a later model 350 olds V-8 in a '53 rocket. Issues you ran into, etc,

Any header type shops that might have something like this?

Thanks.

Sanderson makes some that bolt on and do not use gaskets. They aren't cheap. You will need to know port size on exhaust manifolds before you order. Hedman and flowtech also make some that are less expensive. If you can be positive your motor is a '78 i don't think you will have a problem finding some that will work. You pointed out an important issue with regard to the location of your steering box.

If it was me i would send them some photos of your motor and location of steering box and talk to one of their tech guys. other than that, i will stay out of it. I am sure you can get r done without my assistance. Would love to see the old girl get a fresh set of headers though.............

The steering box is the main issue and the fact that few 53's have been altered compared to 55- 57's. You may have to have the left hand side bent custom. If you don't get a definite answer you might try The H.A. M. B. forum. those guys are into custom altered hot rod conversions...... Tedd....https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-discussion.3/

It may be close, but i think it will fit. I am just going with shorty style headers, and even if it has to be tweaked a little to fit thats fine.

You will have to have the drivers side hand built/custom. None of the headers off the shelf will fit. I used stock manifolds and had to grind the side, to give clearance .
