Intake Question

I saw a 58 Oldsmobile advertised as having a J2 intake. Here's the picture:

Is this a factory 2 barrel car? Did Oldsmobile use the J2 intake on all of their cars in certain years and use block off plates? Or perhaps this owner just removed the front and rear carburetor and added custom block off plates. Just wondering...

They came from the factory both ways. As I understand it they over produced J2 intakes so they just blocked off the front and rear and sold them as regular 2bbl units. Lots were sold that way.

The expensive part of the J2 set up isn't the intake , it's the carbs (front and back) air cleaners and linkage that brings up the price..... Tedd

Thanks for the info Tedd. I figured a complete J2 setup would fetch a good price. Who knows what the story of this car was? It was on a 58 I saw while browsing Craigslist.
