I'm gathering all of the information I need to register my 1950 Rocket 88 with the DVLA in the UK. One of the things I have to quote is the Engine Identification Number (called Engine Serial Number in UK), which I've found stamped on the rear corner of the block, viewed through an opening on the exhaust manifold on the drive's side of the vehicle. The engine number is 8C108452.


Could someone tell me if this makes sense please and looks to be complete, or should I be looking for any further numbers or letters before or after this number tucked away beneath the manifold? The first number 8 is very faint and I nearly missed it. I just want to be correct when I register it because the registration rigmarole you have to go through in the UK is full of banana skins and I don't want to slip up on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That looks like a good read and the correct number, but according to Chilton's manual, that is a 1951 sequence number, meaning the engine block at least is 1951. Good Luck

After doing a lot of searching about on the internet, I found a book that contains the information replicated in the Chilton manual on engine sequence numbers that you've helpfully quoted above. It's in agreement with what you say, that my 1950 vehicle has a 1951 engine. I don't know whether a link to this book has appeared elsewhere on the forum. If so, my apologies for repeating it here.
