1958 Olds 371, Intake, and Tranny
Hello. I'm new to the forum and the world of Oldsmobile. I just pick up a 371, Edelbrock intake, and tranny. Since I'm not familiar with Oldsmobile I thought I would post some pics. For thous of you who know Olds what is your opinion on this combination? I don't know what year the tranny is or if it's worth trying to use with this engine. The intake should be interesting to try and run on this engine as well. I can already see I'll have to figure out something for the water jacket since the Edelbrock doesn't have one. I'm thinking about using this combination in a 1950 Mercury project. Let me know what you think. Thanks

The transmission looks to be 315 4 speed Jetaway and the combination would certainly make a lover of 50's hot rods drool especially with that rack of carburetors and intake.
In stock form it will have well over 300 hp and a bunch of torque. That transmission is not as strong as the previous version but held up for years in in everything GM made (except chevy) from 56 to 58. If you are looking for something unique and not a run of the mill bow tie crate engine that is it.... Tedd
