no brake lights

Hi Folks Yesterday I drove my friends 1957 fiesta wagon to a big car show & as I,m following him in his 1955 98 2 door hardtop, I noticed he had brake lites working when he used his signal lites [either r side or l side] . But as he came to a regular stop he had no brake lites. Any ideas where to start looking for the problem? Thank you in advance. Friskyjake67

Well the same filament in the bulbs works both turn signals and brake lights,so it wouldn't be the bulbs. Has to be in the wiring, but where I would not know. Thanks

Check to see if there is voltage at the brake light switch white wire at the steering column connector with the brake pedal depressed. If so then its probably a bad turn signal switch.

It's not uncommon for there to be a poor ground do to corrosion between the tail light base and the body of the car. Even though there are two large bolts holding the light on and they can be tight there is nothing to keep moisture out and it corrodes there.

On a second note I have seen this happen several times but never two at the same time so maybe there is another issue..... Tedd

I have the same problem right now on my 54. The interior lights and the brake lights are on the same fuse. Unfortunately my fuse is good so I have an electrical gremlin somewhere.
