Starter for a series 66

Is there any modern starter that will work on my 41 olds 66 so I can do away with my foot switch and I'm now running a 12 volt system so do I need to change points and condenser?

Can't help you on the starter other than you can run a 6v starter on 12v as long as you don't crank it for a long time and overheat it. The condense, needs to be changed but your points are fine.

The good news is that Hollanders Interchange Manual indicates the flywheels from 41-48 on 6 cylinder engines are the same. It does not show a separate flywheel for std. vs. hydramatic.

It is difficult to tell from the Hollanders but it looks like 42-48 six cylinder starter motors with solenoid switch are all the same. Since 39-48 six cylinder without the solenoid switch all show the same starter number, it seems to me that all 6 cylinder Oldsmobiles from 1939 to 1948 must have the same starter except for the switch. And it seems likely all have the same mounting.

Some had foot switch with no solenoid and some had solenoid. I think it is likely that a solenoid type starter for a six cylinder Oldsmobile between 1942 and 1948 ought to bolt up. Wiring it in is a whole different matter on which I have no advice.

The caveat is that this is all from Hollanders and I made some conclusions that seemed logical given what Hollanders said, but there is no guarantee I'm right as I've never made that changeover from foot switch to solenoid switch.

hey, did you have any luck changing from the foot starter to a push button starter yet?? If so, congrats! if not contact me, I may be able to guide you in the chang-over. (push button start was an option - I have wiring schematics, and I could possibly send you pics of an original solenoid and an aftermarket solenoid on a stock starter if needed).

Good luck,

~Joe
