Ok, back to the '55 Olds. Anyone have a good picture of their engine bay? I'm bead blasting sheet metal, and painting accessories.


I think the generator was originally black. What's the popular color, black or as most of the cars these days, silver?

I have never seen anything but black on a generator.

The one on my '55 came black..........sort of a semi-gloss or eggshell finish.

Maybe I should paint the alternator on my 54 (obviously not original) black so it would be less noticeable. It is a thought.

Thanks everyone. I pretty much decide on black. I have several other cars with silver. I'm doing a lot of painting in the engine bay, and silver would have been out of place.


On the topic, what was the original black? Satin or Semi? There's not enough original left to tell.
