1948 Oldsmobile club coupe door handle escutcheons

I have a 48 club coupe. A week ago, I find the interior door handle and escutcheon on the floor of the car. Inside the escutcheon was part of the escutcheon spring. It appears to have broken off. The spring I pulled out does not look like your typical escutcheon spring with a narrow taper on one end and the one that came off fits into the escutcheon. Anyone know where I can get replacement springs. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Try Fusicks. Their item 1267. They say it fits all 1937 - 1960 door, vent and window handles. Its called a tension spring. $3.00 ea plus shipping. I'd get all new ones since shipping half a dozen isn't much more than one. 860-623-1589 or www.fusick.com

Thanks Jerry. I need to give them a call. The spring that broke off fits into the escutcheon and I want to make sure these springs I order will fit up there. I will post back when I find out.

door handle escutcheon spring

I ordered the tension springs from Fusick. The diameter was too small. They are 13/16" and do not fit inside the larger diameter escutcheon, which is about 1" in diameter. Anyone else experience this problem?

Hope this will help you. These are the ones off my 78 series 1947. There is a spring inside the escutcheon, then there is a tension spring. The tension spring narrow end does measure 13/16". The larger end goes towards the escutcheon and the narrow end goes towards the door (tension spring is behind the door panel).

Yes, the pictures help quite a bit. I do have two springs, but the one that fits inside the escutcheon is quite a bit longer than the one shown in the picture. Now that I see how it is supposed to be, I think I can figure something out. I didn't want to start taking apart the other handles to create more headaches.

Thanks for your help.
