Transmission, restomod 5 speed choices? HELP

I have a 1969 442, it has a 1970 455 E heads. It is a restomod setup,

Global West adjustable Coil over complete setup, 6 piston Brembos, 19's ADR Wheels, Moser 9", Flaming River column and unfortunately a 700r4.

What are some good 5 or 6 speed newer trans I can run in my car, any one have any experience w/ any, Good or bad.

Thank you in advance.

If you don't want to modify the floor, the Legend Gear 5 speed is a (only) bolt in choice. I've driven mine for at least 5k miles with no issues..

the car was originally a four-speed. The Clutch pedal set up is still in there it was modified a few years back before I got it to a 700r4 auto. I want to put a 5 speed manual

Consensus is the A bodies require tunnel mods for a TKO. T5s are way too weak. T56 is bigger than the TKO. Richmonnd 6 speed is discontinued, although if you could find a used one will work in a non console car.
That kinda leaves the Legend. It's pretty new and I'm not sure how long the wait list is.
If tunnel mods are not an issue, you'll find quite a few TKO derivatives in 68-72 A bodies and kits are available.

This is what I was looking for, Thank you.

Tunnel mod may be an issue. I can make cuts, but I do not weld. Is the tunnel mod in depth?

Are there any mods needed for the T-56?

I was hoping for a bolt in though. L

T56 requires a huge metal hump added to the tunnel. But I think there's a company making a prefabbed add on for F and A bodies.
Go check some of the chevelle forums for the TKO mods. There are quite a few there. The floor pans between the chevelles and Olds are about the same.

Here's a google page. It ought to help you figure things out. I'm running a Tremec TKO 5 speed and could not be happier. The car can run on the highway now with the 3.73s. I always thought the 700 series had no trans tunnel mods. Check it out.

Richmond 5 speed

You do not mention the rear gear ratio. If you have 3.08s or less do not rule out the Richmond 5 speed with the 1:1 1st gear. Lots of those around since most guys have gone to other 5 & 6 speed trans. I have one in my 65 442 linked to a 2.73 posi.

I am running a mustang T-5 , rebuilt with straight cut gears and billit bearing retainer. Have $600.00 in the trans, minor floor mods, and i had to machine an aluminum adaptor to mate the mustang to the olds bellhousing. Had it 3+years, love it.

Any more details?
What gears are you running? G force?
Did you swap input shafts for a GM or are you running a Ford disk with Olds flywheel/pressure plate?
Who makes an adapter pilot bearing?

I have the new defunct Kiesler RS600. Which I think was partially (or completely?) a Legend product anyway. Kiesler was just a shaddy middle man. I believe the LGT-700 is very similar to my RS600 dimensionally.

Anyway, the trans is nice. No floor mods, not even a tap with a hammer.

Here is another to check out, I know nothing about them: http://shiftsst.com/a-body-1968-1972

6 speed automatic

I sure wish I could have a 6 speed (or more gear) automatic for my 68 442. With one of those tip-tronic (electronically controlled) gear shifter. I have one of those in my Kia Soul which I really like.

Is there anything out there that is automatic? I don't know how to drive a stick shift car, nor do I really want to learn either.

Chris

Put a gear vendor OD behind a T400 & you have a 6 speed automatic.

Current GM 6 speed autos are huge. Tunnel mods almost certainly required. TCI make a 6 speed based on the 4L80, but the price is pretty high.
A 4 speed 200R4 is an economical choice. I know there are paddle shift kits for most transmissions. You'll have to do a little research on that.

I looked into that and I felt that it wasn't a good technical choice. It didn't like that it needed servicing like the tranny would. Also I didn't like the fact that you couldn't go 1-1over-2-2over-3 through normal driving. Even in manual mode you have to do some weird shifting to get it to go in and out of the od gear and it had a speed limitation which is not too great either.

That would explain how I'm on Silver Sport's email list.

I'm a manual trans guy for sure, but if I ever had to run an automatic for some reason, a modern 5-6 speed with paddle shifters would still be pretty fun!

Wow that is expensive. I have never really taken to paddle shifters. Had a car which came with it and it was a tad distracting to me while trying to drive. I still like a console based electronic dual gate shifter like I have in my Kia Soul.
