68 Jetaway torque converter, 350 trans

Hi All,

The jetaway is down and out preparing to replace with turbo 350. I have a converter for the 350 trans already. Would there be any advantage to using the converter from the jetaway instead? The 350 converter is a 13 inch heavy duty for use in the 350 or 400 trans with a 1300-1500 stall.

Joe

Jetaway won't fit, it's a switch pitch converter.

The last switch pitch Jetaway was in 1967. A 68 trans will have a fixed stator. Yes, it does fit into a TH350/TH400 and yes this is an old trick to cheaply get a higher stall converter. The real question is, what shape is the Jetaway converter in and do you trust it in your new trans?

Thanks for the responses.

Joe, yes very good point. I believe the converter to be original. The rebuilt converter that came with the trans is a transtar heavy duty. Stall is 1300-1500.

Not sure on the stall for the jetaway, I thought I read somewhere around 1400-1600.

Interesting as I've been toying with the idea of running the 2sp. behind my 455 until I can afford to do a T350 right (or 200R4) I've been wondering about my 1800 stall T350 converter in the 2 spd.
Suppose I'll need to find out if I have a switch pitch unit or not.
Its in a 65 Cutlass but that doesn't mean anything. Sure doesn't seem to have much for a stall speed.

You can use a 67 or older in your 65 and manually change your stall with switches. Its a pretty neat setup! There are tons of articles out there on what to do!!
