want to buy Turbo 350 or Turbo 400

I have a 1966 Cutlass with a 330ci engine and it has the 2 speed transmition with the electronic torque converter. I want to get rid of that crappy setup and put either the TH400 or TH350 transmition in it. I would prefer the TH400 but will take either. As you know it must be an olds or buick transmition and must be the small block not the big block to bolt up. The 350 rocket engines have the same transmitions that I need. Please email or call me if you have anything.

the transmision will bolt up the same for big block and small block. if i was you i would go with a TH350 if you are keeping the 330 engine.

now that i think about it. you may be able to use your current kickdown switch for the 400 but i am not sure. you will have to make some changes to your carb linkage or throttle pedal for the detent cable if you use the 350

T-350 is the easy thing to do.
No drive shaft shortening, keep existing trans linkage.
KEEP your existing throttle linkage, get a T-350 downshift cable from a late 70's car (you can buy them new at Autozone for around $20), and get a throttle cable bracket for the same 70's car, cut the pedal part of the bracket off.
Or you can change the whole pedal linkage, and go to a throttle cable. Works better than the older linkage.

that sounds like the way to go. Can you go over the parts that I will need to get the TH350 installed properly. I would like to do it right so whatever you think works best would be great. Thanks for the help

Russel: You may want to look for an Olds TH400 of the same year, as it has the electronic converter too. You can use a Pontiac th400 too, as they (Buick, Olds, Pontiac, (and after 67 Cad)) use the BOP bell pattern.

Would you be interested in selling (or donating) the 2 speed trans to me? Let me know.

GO WITH A TH350. It's a DIRECT bolt in.

400 is longer and has different splines.

Big block and small block are the same bolt pattern for GM.

Mopars use different sizes.

We have not talked since I started driving the car. You are going to love that TKO600 you purchased. It is one sweet transmission.

Ever since you posted the picture of you driving your car I have wondered if you have been satisfied with the new trans. Great news now I am convinced I made the right choice

If you need the old 2 speed just let me know where you are. I am planning on trying to get an oldsmobile TH350, but I am having a hard time finding it so what are the options and headaches to using a chevy TH350 and getting some kind of converter to go from Olds bolt pattern to Chevy bolt pattern? I was also wondering if I do that does it make the transmittion end up back further or will it be in the right spot to use the same mounts, crossmembers, and drive shaft? I would rather stay with an oldsmobile but I just cant find one. I was also trying to find a car that had a 350 Rocket and th350 and buying the whole car to swap to a 350 but I cant find that either. I did find a 65 car that has the 455 super rocket and TH400 for cheap, but I don't know what kind of things I would have to change to get that to fit in there. You can get aftermarket and OEM parts for the 455 rocket, but not so much for the 350 so that may be a way to go also. As you can tell I am very confused and frustrated with the Oldsmobile parts availability so please help me keep this an olds combo and give me something so I don't have to go to chevy engine and tranny. Really DONT want to do that

Should not be any issue finding a BOP TH350. Put a wanted add on Craigs list and also look at adds that might not mention Olds. Watch the Pontiac and Buick adds too. Is there a local chapter of the OCA in you area. If so contact them. Probably a pack rat with 4-5 in a shed.

The adapter needed to use the chevy pattern will cost as much as a transmission core should cost. The crossmember mounts should be fine with a little hole slotting but you might be pushing it on the driveshaft. The adapters I have seen are about 3/8" thick so the transmisson will be moved back that much.

Ok I will post on craigslist a wanted and see what I get, but what do you think about getting the 455 rocket and TH400 out of the 65 Olds 98?

P.S. Thank you for your help. Your car is way better than mine, but when I finish it I will post some pics.

Nothing wrong with posting in progress pics

Unless its changed the motor in the 65 will not be a 455 also the trans will be a long tail.

How cheap can you get that 65' combo?
Even if you don't end up using it right away, It's great to have around.
