Would a '69 442 four speed have a console?

Reading an article that says the optional transmissions for the '69 422 included (among others) a "4 spd manual close ratio Hurst floor shifter" as well as a "floor shifter optional on auto with console". Does this mean only the automatic came with the console and the manual transmissions did not?

I don't know what article you were reading, but NO 1969 442 came with a console as base equipment. If you ordered a base 442 in 1969, you got the 350 HP 400 cu in motor, the "Dearborn" three speed manual trans with Hurst shifter, bucket seats, and NO console. You had to pay $61.49 extra for RPO D55 to get a console. Similarly, if you ordered the four speed manual, you did not get a console, just a floor shifter, unless you paid extra for D55. Keep in mind that you could get a bench seat under RPO A52, which was a $68.46 credit. Obviously there was no possibility of installing a console with the manual trans and a bench seat.

If you ordered RPO M40 automatic trans, you got the 325 HP version of the 400 motor and a column shifter with either buckets or bench. You again had to order RPO D55 along with M40 to get the AT floor shifter and console if you had bucket seats.

It's all spelled out in the SPECS booklet.

Thanks so much Joe. So a four speed manual transmission could have a console mounted shifter but it would have to been ordered as the D55 option.

FYI, in 1969, there was only one shifter and stick. It was the same with or without a console and with buckets or bench seats. The only difference was the rubber boot that went over it.
