66 442 shifter Opening in floor

Anyone know if theres a different sized shifter opening in the floor for a 3-speed and 4-speed in 66? I heard the opening for the 4 speed extends all the way down to the floor pan

There is a difference between the 3 & 4 speed shifter hole piercings. The cowl tag denotes this with the 2L & 2B codes. I'm thinking it's the positioning of the piercings are front/rear,not side to side.

Unfortunitly, no codes on my car..Freemont..The assy. manual shows a different carpet cut for each. so, you believe the opening is the same, just different piercings? do they use a shifter boot porch like chevy and pont?

Yes,Olds uses a plate/hump on top of the floor pan. A word of advice, when ordering carpet,it's best to use column shift and not floor shift carpet. If you use floor shift carpet, there's too much material there and will not lay flat. The reason is,they used another GM line for the mold that had a larger/higher hump/plate,thus the extra carpet/material.

The Olds plate/hump is not that high, not much higher than the floor pan. I think they used a Pontiac hump and it's much higher than an Olds.
