4 Speed Shifter ID

Hello all,

I've been looking for the correct 4 speed shifter for my 71 442 bench seat car and I have seen several different types. There are 4 speeds with or without consoles and bucket seats and there are shifters for bench seat cars. The handles are different and I have noticed that the shifter body where the handle goes in is either at an angle or straight up. Is there a resource to identify what each shifter looks like? What is correct for my application?

You should purchase a 71 assembly manual. It will show which shifter and handle combination goes in your model.

Thanks Joe!

I have a digital and hard copy of the Assembly manual, but it is unclear as to whether the handle receiver is straight up or at an angle. It kind of looks like it is at an angle, but again no clear illustration.

What does the 3138 shifter body with the straight handle receiver fit?

The 1966-69 cars used the straight receiver. All the 1970-72 cars used the angled one.

The 69-earlier consoles have the shifter stick offset towards the driver. The 70-72 consoles have the shifter stick on the centerline of the car.
