Hard to shift, park to all gears

I have a 1972 Cutlass Supreme. It is very hard to shift from park to all gears and back. It is a column shift three speed 350 trans. It almost has a metal scrapping sound when going from park to other gears and back. Need help diagnosing and possible r&r to repair if possible.

Check the linkages from the steering column at the fire wall that drop down to the driver's side linkages on the TH350 transmission. A bent linkage perhaps.

It could be the linkages or it could be the column itself. Visually inspect the linkage for worn areas. Temporarily disconnect the linkage from the column arm and try moving the column shift lever through the gears. If it still scrapes, the problem is internal to the column.
