TCI or Monster Transmission 2004R TCC Lockup kit?
Eliminating CCC setup.
The TCI unit is internal: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tci-376600
Monster Transmission is external: http://www.monstertransmission.com/2...it_p_4987.html
Which one actually works better in real world use? They are both basically the same price.
I need to change my pan gasket anyways, so I'm thinking of going internal. This job will be done with the transmission on the car though, so it's going to be a bit challenging and messy I'm guessing.

The TCI kit works quite well, I installed it on my 70S, vacuum switch needed adjusting with the larger cam. Now it works flawless on my 88 Cutlass with the stock 260 peanut cam, no doubt a stronger vacuum signal.

Well - I got it installed and have an issue. The transmission acts like it's slipping in and out of 4th if you step on the gas when you are in 4th gear. I had no problems prior to removing the CCC setup. I'm hoping it just needs adjusting.. Although I'm not sure which way I'd want to turn it, how much, etc.. I don't have a vacuum gauge to observe while driving (or even a tach).
It otherwise drives fine..I can tell it goes into 4th, but I can't feel lockup happening. I think maybe it's engaging as soon as it goes into 4th? I'm really not sure.

I believe it needs turned counter closewise and only a little bit. Mine also did that but works as should now on my 88 Cutlass. I assumed it was the larger cam but it is probably just the factory setting.

Thanks.. I'm going to double check with TCI tomorrow. Hopefully one adjustment takes care of it and I don't have to readjust a bunch of times. I definitely don't want to open the transmission back up.. Man, that was messy.. Not a fun job on the garage floor.

Got this from TCI:
"The vacuum switch needs to be adjusted. Turn the small 3/32" screw in the side clockwise about 1/4 turn at a time until the slippage goes away."
I'll give that a shot. Guess it takes some driving/troubleshooting to get it right. I'll also move the switch to the engine bay. Right now I zip tied it to the trans plug. Probably not a great place for it.

Well - I adjusted clockwise - The problem went away..but I don't think it was going in lockup. I decided to go the other way (as you originally suggested) and then I'm pretty sure it was going in lockup. Albeit pretty much as soon as it shifted into 4th. It would stay locked up until you went back to 3rd. I drove it back and forth on the highway and adjusted several times.
I also noticed when driving I was getting quite a shudder over 50-60. Felt like I was on a real rough patch of road. It did this regardless of the vacuum setting as far as I could tell. I'm not sure whether or not it was the transmission - but I had never noticed this prior to any of this work. I think it did it whether it was in 3rd or 4th gear.
When I got home I checked the fluid and it was a good quart low. I kinda doubt being a quart or so low would cause that problem? Anyways, I topped it off and parked it for the night.
Edit: I'll double check the tires tomorrow. They are 8 years old, but were fine when I last took the car out about 6-7 weeks ago. Tons of tread and no rotting (stored indoors). Brakes and front wheel bearings are all new late last year. I'll jack it up and feel each tire and shake them around to make sure that's not it.

Stormed all day so I didn't get to drive it again. Jacked it up and checked all the tires. Everything seemed solid. Tires seemed fine. Tightened the one nut for the transmission mount I had access to. Wasn't real loose, but was able to get another 1/4 to 1/2 turn on it.
