hurst shifter

how does the handle come off without taken all levers off. Is there a way to do this? I have the 4 speed setting on my bench.

If the stick is not bolted in you slide a thin piece of metal down along stick (thin knife blade) on each side and pull and wiggle the stick and it should come out. Sliding the metal down releases the tabs holding the stick into the shifter.

Mine was rusted so badly that the blade alone didn't get the job done. There was slop in the shifter, so I sent it to Hurst for rebuild. They removed the stick in the process and I got back a pristine shifter.

Just an option if you have any further difficulty.

Factory or aftermarket Hurst shifter? The stick attachment is different. And are you talking about removing the chrome stick from the shifter body? The shift rods have nothing to do with this.

I merged your two identical threads. It is neither necessary nor in your best interest to post the same question in multiple forums. You'll get a better answer sooner if all responses are kept in the same thread.

I think is factory shifter and it is the chrome handle that I am trying to remove.

If factory, slide a .010 feeler gauge down the side to release it. It can be a pain, and if corroded, you may have to put penetrative in there as well.

To expand a little, the stick snaps in and is retained with a flat spring. The feeler gauge holds the spring out of the way so you can extract the stick. Sometimes you have to push down on the stick when inserting the feeler gauge so the spring doesn't get stuck on the stick.
