Exclamation Need advice on Trans problem

Hello all. I live near Jackson MI. my 1972 cutlass 350 has transmission issues. It has been hard finding help. I was given a # to a shop when my regular mechanic at the gas station could not handle the olds trans. It turned out to be a dealership. they will fix the trans but it will be pricey, around $1,600.00.
can anybody point me to someone near jackson Mi that can do it cheaper/better?
would I be better off buying a new trans and having them swap it out, they said they could do that too. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I would find it surprising that you don't have a transmission shop nearby. AAMCO or similar should be able to easily repair or rebuild a TH350. Heck, I rebuilt the one in my 70 Supreme back in the 80s.

A quick internet search returns the following results:

Gattshall’s Transmission
Transmission Repair
224 S Mechanic St
Jackson, MI 49201
Phone number (517) 782-4675

Malco Transmissions
Transmission Repair
619 Laurence Ave
Jackson, MI 49202
Phone number (517) 787-3303

Star Transmission & Auto Repair
Auto Repair, Transmission Repair, Towing
2401 Page Ave
Jackson, MI 49203
Phone number (517) 783-1190

You can also talk to the local Olds Chapter or some of the local hot rodders, they can make recommendations on who to use.

Unless you care about preserving the original trans, it will likely be less expensive to just get a rebuilt TH350. This is probably the most common automatic in the world. Rebuilts are a fraction of the $1600 estimate, and frankly it isn't that hard to rebuild one yourself. The only thing to watch out for is that you need a rebuilt with a BOP bellhousing, NOT a Chevy bellhousing.

We all try to make everybody feel welcome on here but after 5 posts the guy slams you for taking the time to help him out. Very unnecessary on his part.
