62 Culass driveshaft support for bearing

Would like to replace the rubber/metal support the center driveshaft bearing rides in but can't locate a new one.

I ordered one from Old Buick Parts/Cars Inc but turns out they are out with no date when they will come back in. I think they actually have these manufactured for them.

Any other vendors?

Thanks

I got a replacement driveshaft for my 89 Chevy van with 2 sections and intermediate support from my local driveshaft supplier.
I was able to use the old shaft for the supplier...much easier to use the shaft for a template vs. dimensions over the internet.

It's an odd design, the rubber sleeve part is locked on the outer race of the carrier bearing, but it is completely free to move back and forth in its support housing, it can easily be pushed out with thumb pressure. If it is banging around in the housing, it means you have some other driveshaft type of problem. The rubber part usually does not go bad, but the bearing does go out. It's a common part Timken#X908 if I recall.

Thanks for the replies. This car was in storage when purchased and I have never driven it so I don't know how that part performs under power. Car won't be on the road for a while. I am looking to replace it based on it being a 50 year old rubber driveline part. I will definitely replace the bearing which is available and if I can't find the bearing collar give it a try as is and replace as available-unless anyone knows of a supplier with inventory?
Thanks again.

No problem, thanks for checking in on it. Old Buick tells me they think they will have more in the future but I checked in with them again end of last week and no one there has any idea when.

Thanks again.

Neapco sells one for early 60s Chevrolet. If you search it you may find a place that gives dimensions but you may have to modify it or the way it mounts. PN-N210527X-

Hey man,

I had the same issue with mine. I was able to have the Damper Doctor make me a new one for about $175 shipped.

Thanks for the tip. Look like a good supplier to have in the bag if needed. I'll do a real evaluation of mine first and see if it's up to the job, worth replacing it if it's bad but would like to save the money. And maybe OldBuick will make another run of them. Wonder if damper doctor would do the front susp mounts too? I'll give them a call.

I think you can get those mounts from Kanter.

Checked with Kanter and no luck. I have a pair of 61 front sub frame bushing but they are different than 62-3. We have a front susp pulled and you can see the diff-doesn't look like they will seat all the way into the pocket.

Yes, the collar that is inside that bracket is the driveshaft center bearing collar that I am looking for. I have an original one but want to replace it with a new one. Mine is "OK" condition but a new one would be nice. Checked with OldBuick parts again today and they still don't know when they will be back in stock.

The subframe mounts are a different story.

Send that stuff to the damper doctor! He will be able to make it, and you won't have to hunt. Pretty reasonable prices and turn around time too!

looking at his site now and he might actually have one for a buick special.

My thinking too, but I have an email and 2 phone calls in to them with no answers back. I'll keep trying as they look like a handy supplier.

Just spoke to Dampdoc. He will rebuild my driveshaft center collar for $211 including a new bearing. New bearings are availabale and run about $30. Recommends talking to SteelRubber on the mounts. Gotta check out my collar closely before going out for a rebuild.

Thanks again.
