O type rear end

I have a 69 f85 cutlass with a 455 and 350 trans. This winter I am going to be putting a mondello 4150 possiflow intake, 750 street demon carb, and a xe274 cam. My rear end is the stock 3.08 open carrier o type. I want a posi. Who sells parts? Are they affordable? Better off to just get a true 12 bolt? Rear ends are not my thing. Don't know a whole lot about these o types

There's not much available for the Type O which has an inspection cover with 12 bolts and a ring gear with 10. These are strong rear ends and wouldn't have any trouble surviving behind a 455. Unless your TH350 has been beefed up, that may be the weaker link.

You can put in a different rear end from other 64-72 GM A-body cars but may need to change the driveline and/or U-joint. Olds used a bigger u-joint than chevy, but there is an aftermarket joint available with two Old and two Chevy caps on it.

Check for a member named monzaz, he sells new and used parts and is one of the resident gurus of differentials. He can tell you what he has available for your car at this time.
