4 Speed bellhousing paint color

I own a 68 442 4 speed and i am in the process of having the 4 speed trans rebuild and inspecting the clutch. I noticed the bell housing as been painted previously in red than in blue. I did they come from the factory? Were they unpainted aluminum or the same color as the engine? Also the steel clutch cover plate what color is it supposed to be originally?

I had a parts car with low miles, just been abused and hacked up by previous owner. The bellhousing was bare aluminum with bronze overspray from the factory painting the engine. It would likely be next weekend before I could take a picture, but if that would help send me a reminder on Saturday.

John, thanks a bunk, that's good enough and just as I suspected. If it as a steel plate that covers the clutch at the bottom let me know if it's painted and in what color or just zinc plated. Cheers Louis.

The steel plates I've seen were painted black.

My bell housing was painted bronze and the inspection cover was also bronze. Built in Oshawa.

I'm "pretty sure" that when they painted the engines, the bare aluminum bellhousings were already attached, and got as much or as little overspray as the guy on the line was in the mood to put on them that day, and so can vary from minimal just by the edge of the engine, to essentially entirely painted.
