Transmission options
I have a 1964 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight. It has what I believe is called a Slim Jim transmission. It appears to be burnt up because it barely pulls and slips very bad. I do not have the money for a major conversion and I was curious if anyone has any ideas. would a 60s jetaway fit in my car?

No I haven't. I was told that this would be the second or third time rebuilding it for this particular car that has only 80,000 miles. I have been given the impression that this is a pretty lousy trans. Is that accurate? It is just a cruiser, but I was hoping to gain a little more dependability.

I can't field an opinion on it, but if it was working before and just wore out then just pulling it apart and putting in new clutches and seals isn't rocket science. Although if it was rebuilt recently and wore out fast, that suggests that either whoever rebuilt it last time was sloppy, or there's a bigger problem hiding. I know something as small as a hair slipping under a ring can really mess up clutch pressure and cause an early wear out on any trans.
