Jet Away Shift

I am not very experienced with the Jet Away transmissions. I have a 1964 Olds 98 with one in it and it doesn't appear to be shifting properly. Can someone tell me what I should experience on a properly adjusted one? I only feel one shift and it is a very long pull.

64 Ninety Eight should have a Slim Jim Hydramatic. The 4-speed Jetaway HydraMatic was used 56-60. A later ST300 or 2-speed Jetaway won't bolt up to a 394, and a 4-speed Jetaway will be a very tight fit in a 61-64 chassis, so you probably have a Slim Jim.

SJ are sensitive to throttle valve rod adjustment, but if it's doing a shudder-clunk-lurch from 1st to 2nd, that's kinda normal for these things. You can tune some of it out with TV rod adjustment but you need to follow the shop book procedure closely. Also helps to have the dealer special tool to do it with.

I've had several of the things that the 2-3 shift was barely perceptible, so it may actually be shifting.

Thanks rocketraider. I was told it was a jet away, but it appears to be a 2 speed so that makes sense. This is my first Olds. Should the shift be a long bogging pull through? It doesn't clunk, but it is a pretty dramatic shift. Thanks!
