Rear end swap question

Posted in wrong spot I don't know how to delete, sorry.
So I have done a bunch of research about my "12 bolt" type O and its a pain to get parts if I can even get them at all with the certain model I have. I am looking for a rear end that can bolt in to my car that has aftermarket parts readily available. I have a 67 cutlass 4dr sedan (A body). What rear end/s should I look into and beef up?

Any 64-72 A-body rear will bolt up. I like the 71-72 Olds, Buick corporate 8.5 10 bolt. Easy to find cheap and cheap common parts. I used 3.73 gears from a late model Suburban in mine.

Does that require any driveshaft mods Richard?

Not 100% sure on that. I had a custom 3" D/S made when I built mine since I was using a TKO 600 and planned future 550HP motor.

When switching from a 12-bolt O-axle,to a 71-72 8.5" 10-bolt,you will need to shorten your driveshaft. The 8.5" 10-bolt is hard to beat. They handle plenty if abuse, and everyone makes parts for them.

Is there any rear end that eliminates having to modify the driveshaft or is that the only route? If so do i have to get the stock one modded or do they sell one aftermarket. I guess a modded one thats welded just doesn't seem the strongest. Also what does the word "corporate" mean?

Getting a custom driveshaft is no big deal. By the time you pay to have yours modified, swap out the 40 year old U joints, scored and worn yoke, etc, you could buy new for not a lot more money.

To just shorten one check with any local offroad shops. Most of them are set up to do it.

You could install a 12-bolt Chevy, with the Canadian yoke, and leave the driveshaft alone. Same u-joint too. 3R.

Yes,if you swap from a Jetaway or Th350,to a TH400,you would also need to shorten the driveshaft or get a new one made.

What does corporate mean? and I have a re-built th350 with the short shaft, so it shouldn't need to be shortened correct? If i get a stock 10 bolt 8.5 can i put a 12 bolt carrier into it to change it over or is that not possible? And what is stock drive shaft length compared to new custom length with both 8.5 and th350(short shaft)?
