Wont sit on crossmember

Just swapped in a 455 into my small block 70 Cutlass S. Bolted a rebuilt turbo 350 to it and installed the whole works using the 350 motor mounts. Not the original turbo 350. My problem now is that my transmission wont sit down on the crossmember to be bolted up. The alignment of the holes looks good through the crossmember to the tranny its just too high. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm even questioning now if it makes a difference if the motor mounts are on the wrong side? There didn't appear to be any difference and I didn't pay any attention to which side they came off or went on. Any help would be appreciated, my wife is growing tired of my project taking up the carport!! Thanks guys.

No pictures. I can take a picture of the crossmember issue after work today. The motor mounts looked symmetrical, pretty tough to get pictures now

Perhaps a stupid question, but if you removed the crossmember did you put it back in the right way? I noticed on mine that it that it will only work one way.

You believe incorrectly. The motor and frame mounts are the same side-for-side except on the 1965-70 full size cars.

More to the point, it isn't physically possible for the trans to levitate. If the trans isn't supported at the crossmember, the engine and trans rotates downward. SOMETHING is hanging up. Figure it out.

Crossmember was never out. I'm glad to hear the mounts aren't the issue, thanks Joe. I will triple check that nothing is hanging it up.

My mistake on the engine mounts, I was thinking of a different thread.
