69 442 4 speed vibration/rattle on acceleration

I have a 69 442 convertible 4 speed and there is a rattle/vibration in the stick shift under load with acceleration.

I recently had new motor mounts replaced due to fatigue and thinking that perhaps the transmission mount or height change may be the issue.

Perhaps driveshaft angle?
Perhaps Bearings?

I attached a brief recording that you can see vibration and hear the rattle sound.

I have not taken it in for inspection yet as I wanted to see if others had some insight.

Please share your thoughts thank you.

Paul.

It could also be the pilot bearing, an internal transmission bearing, pinion bearing, driveshaft issue, etc... When did it start?

Hi Oldcutlass - it started after the motormounts changed and headers removed back to originial manifolds about 8 months ago. I only drive about 700 miles a year so about 3 - 400 miles ago - it gets louder when warmer temperatures. I can hold the shifter and that helps but know that there is something going on. It does not impact performance as far as I can tell. Also it does not do it when in neutral or clutch depressed.

Thank you for reaching back.

Paul.

Does it shake at speed still in gear when you lift off the gas? I can't hear well through my laptop. Is there a whine that increases in volume when you increase the load with the throttle. Does the whine instantly go away when you release the throttle?

Octania's suggestion on the Ujoint is where I'd start my inspection. Double check all the work done previously with the engine mounts and the exhaust to make sure all is tight.

Hi Eric, it stops shaking when I lift off the gas and will start again as soon as it is pressed. There is a whine as well that follows the same lift gas it stops, press gas it is present and grows louder with more acceleration. Almost sounds like it is coming from the air vents more passenger side.

The whine is there before the shaking - seems that the shaking is only present under heavy load.

Thanks again for the tips.

Let me know if you think of other possibilities - I have a pretty good list now.

The mechanic wants to put it up on the dyno to test trouble shoot as well.

Thanks again.

Paul.
