off topic non olds tranny question
any tranny guru's out there that can help me... i need to replace my 95 4l80e trans with a junk yard unit. the problem i'm having is the sticker is missing from the bell housing on mine and it contains a three letter code either bmp byp mbp mrp the junk yard says they need the 3 letter code. all I have on my bad tranny is the metal tag that has 5m cp on it with the rivet in between the m and c. anyone know what these three letters on the paper label mean?. the metal tag i figured the 5 is for 1995 and does the rest of the metal tag associate to the paper label?

^^ I thought that they could find the
exact one for your application if you
gave them the VIN number from the car
or truck in question.
Unless it is not the tranny it was born with?
Chevy, GMC?

the coding you speak of is probably the gearing ratio for the trans. I had to lie when I put my GAGT tranny in the Alero. I pulled a 2003 Grand Am GT VIN off the internet. The GAGT tranny has a 3.29 FDR vs the 3.05 in the Alero. No big deal, I have the HPTuners to change the FDR and all the tranny gears if I want to

this tranny is for my 95 gmc 3500HD short school bus MT1 480le (ice cream truck) the junk yard never mentioned the vin to look it up...just said there was one of 4 possibilities a bmp byp mbp mrp and said they were not interchangeable....i don't know maybe it is gearing or spline difference or something else
