Where can i find a replacement transmission?

Hey guys

My 1970 olds cutlass Transmission took a dump on me last year and I ended up selling the tranny out of it because it was no good But I realized I screwed up because I can’t seem to find another one anywhere.

I tried to buy one off of jegs and they ended up canceling my order after 5 month of waiting so I’m stumped, The car isn’t original at all someone put a Chevy 355 in it and the trans was a oldsTh350 short tail shaft that was adapter up to the block.

I’d love to get it back going again and I was wonder what aftermarket transmission would be a direct swap can I go with a Chevy th350 and it would boot Right up or would I need a olds trans because of how short the trans was Any help would be appreciated

Welcome.

The transmission needs to fit the engine family.

Your looking in the wrong places. Chevy transmissions fit Chevy engines. A transmission from a Olds will fit a Olds, in addition to a Pontiac and Buick. All things considered there are 3 times more BOP cores available than Chevy stuff.

It would help knowing what transmission you need. Th350? Th400? Short or long output shaft?

Find a core, any transmission shop worth a dime can build a decent 350/400 trans cheaper than buying one from summit or JEGS. Where are you located?

If your running a Chevy engine then you can use a Chevy transmission without the adapter plate.

Most of the TH 350's of this era had a dual pattern on the trans face .
They had extra holes for either pattern .
They would bolt up to a BOP or a Chevy block .

The TH350 is the most common GM trans available from the aftermarket. EVERYONE sells them. Summit, Jegs, Speedway, TCI, B&M, Jasper, etc, etc.

I have the short tail shaft i believe it’s really small and stubby and I measured it out to be about 6 inch where the yoke is. So would any tran th350 that had a short tail shaft in it work or is there a specific one?

because I had a truck th350 out of a 80s Square body with a short tail and it was a few inches off so I’m not that familiar with trans so is there a difference between car and truck transmission and that’s why it’s off or is it something else I think i have a pic of the original trans I’ll posted it below

The truck version is the longest TH350. Most car applications are the shortest one.

If you need a short tail shaft (OLDS) Turbo 400 trans (beefier trans than the T350) I can help. I have several cores available for $175.00 plus shipping.
Good Luck.

Brad
