What parts for 200 4R?
I'm putting a 200 4R behind a mild 330. 9.0 compression, mild cam, #4 stock heads, shorty headers. Edelbrock OL4B with a Q-jet.
Do I need to go with performance parts or will stock rebuild be OK. Car is a 46 Ford street rod, 3:73 gears, maybe 3800 lbs. No racing, just cruising. Trans is originally out of a 85 Caprice.

I would add something like the big Transgo kit, bottom feed filter, either 700R4 or 4L60E filter, CK sells one with a spacer for the stock pan and relocation of the switch so it doesn't short on the filter. This.http://www.ckperformance.com/View/HI...R-AND-SUMP-KIT Add a hardened stator, pink 700R4 pump slide spring along with quality frictions should last a long time. A base a converter at whatever stall you want should work. The Transgo kit is not harsh. Under light throttle, very mild and just firm, full throttle. Honestly the most noticeable shift is when it downshifts to first, a slight clunk.

I put a High Performance Billet Servo .500 Boost Valve Hardened Stator Support ,10 vane pump 200-4R Superior Shift Reprogramming Kit and a 2600 stall . Most of the parts I got from Oregon performance transmission .I had about 700 bucks in the hole deal and my 68 does about 23 mpg

If all your planning to do is cruise, if the trans is in good condition it will live behind a mild 330 just fine. If you plan to beat on it, install a TransGo shift kit. The important part is getting the TV cable adjusted right. Close enough wont work, it has to be right.

It is now a moot point, I found a 200 4R from a crashed 84 Hurst that has only 500 miles on a performance rebuild (receipts in hand). Complete with stock converter, TV cable, brackets, the whole works for $200.
