Leaking governor cover seal on 300 Jetaway
I noticed a small leak around the transmission pan a couple months ago. It would drip over night but nothing dramatic. I've lost about 1pint of fluid over the course of 2 months. I originally thought it was the pan gasket but after having a mechanic take a closer look under a lift, it ended up being the governor cover seal. I ordered one from ebay. I was wondering how complex it is to replace the seal. I heard it was spring loaded? I have an assembly manual for my 68 Cutlass Supreme automatic but it doesnt have the page that goes over the gov cover. Just trying to get an idea if its a simple job or complex.

no surprises behind the cover. just remove the cover and replace the seal. while the cover is off, pull the governor and check the gear for wear. if it looks like an apple core it should be replaced.

I ordered a seal for my governor cover and it arrived. It looks like this:

My governor cover has 3 bolts in order to remove it from the tranny. My question is, I know there governor covers that are just a circle without the bolt pattern. Is this seal that I ordered made for both style covers or does the cover with the three bolt pattern require a specific gasket?
