Jetaway vs Super Turbine

Yes and yes. Pontiac also used it. Note that the 1964-67 Buick and Olds versions of the ST300 came with the switch pitch converter. The 68-69 versions and Poncho version did not.

I think most of us have.
If you have a web site or other way of posting these for sale, it might save a whole bunch of trips to the scrap yard.

I still have the one with torque converter that was removed from my car attached to the 330 if any of the Buick guys are interested. It was serviced and checked out about 2 years prior to being removed.

FYI, I ended up selling the forged crank to Chris Witt and scrapping the trans and remains of the motor.

More to the point, the whole purpose of the switch pitch it to provide a converter with two different stall speeds. Is the high stall of the stock converter not high enough for your engine? Or does one do this just because "everybody sez" you need to run a higher stall converter. This is one of those things that people do without thinking it through.

After reading this several times, I think I understand your question.
The PG and the ST300 are NOT the same transmission.
Never were. Never will be.
No parts interchange between them, as far as I know, except maybe some compression fittings.
The Buick Super-Turbine and the Oldsmobile Jetaway, on the other hand ARE the same transmission.
Go back and re-read the thread. Sometimes the give and take can be confusing.

Due to its two-speed with torque converter design, the Super Turbine 300 is often confused with Chevrolet's Powerglide — which was also a two-speed torque converter transmission, but the ST 300 was of a completely different design and shared no parts with the Chevy unit, which had been around since 1950.

I have seen the guys on v8buick.com looking for the smaller diameter switch-pitch converters to use in the sp th400. I would guess they cut em, put some new stuff in and maybe restall one or both stall speeds and weld it back up.
That site is down for some maintenance at the moment but if you want to venture over I bet someone will show some interest.

Dacco-Detroit has plenty of them. Catalog list B-1 & B-2 as variable vane torq convertors. I bought a 11" and 12". Ran about $200 for both. 12" =2400 hi stall, 11" =2800 high stall. http://www.daccoinc.com/ Bought mine out of local tranny shop. No shipping since he orders 10-20 convertors at a time. They have a warehouse in Crossville, Tenn. Hope this helps. Had them for about 7 years no problems so far.

And to throw another monkey wrench in the works don't confuse the first generation Jetaway(56-58) same name completely different 4 transmission with the same name 2 speed mentioned above...Tedd
