bell housing adapter
Anyone ever use a bell housing adapter to fit a chevy th-400 to a olds 455? I live in hawaii and i haven't had any luck finding a BOP trans . chevys are everywhere. I do have 2 BOP th-350 that i may send out to a shop .Not sure which way to go . I have heard that the 350 can be built up to handle the 455 Tq but still undecided. My 455 should make about 450hp and 500ft/lbs .

The tailshaft is the last housing on the transmission that also holds the speedometer gears.
'A' body cars, [cutlass, chevelle, special, lemans] use a 'short shaft', about 8 inches long.
On big cars it's about 14 inches long, requiring shortening the driveshaft a like amount, and can be expensive!
Chevrolet came out with a 4L80E a while back which is essentially a 400 w/ O.D.!
Don't know the measurements, but would hold your TQ + HP, although you'd need some electronic hook-ups, and that adapter, possibly a D/S shortening, too!
Never been out there, but are there X-ways?? Where can you go over 65 and for how long? O/D might not be worth it - unless you're pulling steep gears!
Measure the current trans from the front of the bellhousing, where it meets the block to the end of the tailshaft, and find one the same length to avoid driveshaft shortening!
Good luck -
