Auto to T5 Manual Swap Help Please
#3
do yourself a favor, dont use a T-5, you will break it. you might be alright with a world class t-5, I wanted an overdrive trans, through a bunch of research I decided on the T-56 If you want to swap to a manual, you will need the pedal box, linkage, trans, crossmember, one of the problems with the oldsmobile engines is the crankshaft isnt drilled for a pilot bearing. I know theres a few people that have found easy solutions to this. someone will chime in

I have a WC T-5 out on a 86 Mustang GT in my F-85. I rebuilt it with stronger internals, but summit has an equal replacement for about $1200.00. I drilled my crank using a jig that we made to center a bit on the crank. The hard part is that you will need to machine an adaptor plate that moves the transmission back. The plate bolts to the BOP belhousing, and has the ford bolt pattern. Everything else is stock. Not easy! I would convert to a muncie first.

If you machine a plate to move the tranny back you can put the pilot in a spool machined to center in the flywheel. Porche does this and I have used it to hook a t-56 to the 371 motor in my 57. My t-56 was an aftermarket version intended for Mustangs and came with a 1/2 inch steel plate on the trans which we drilled for my Offenhauser bell housing.
