Does anyone know if a 5 or 6 speed transmission is available for a 72 olds with a 455? I would like to get one for better over all performance and fuel efficiency. Can't find any info any where.

I’m thinking a gearvendors to go with my 4 speed, supposedly almost no floor pan mods needed.

Legend LGT700 5 Speed No floor pan modifications
Uses Regular Bell housing style

TKO600 5 Speed Minor to Major Tunnel mods depending who you buy it from-American Powertrain will machine the tops of there TKO600 for an additional fee where it will fit with less tunnel modifications
Uses Regular Bell housing style

T56 6 Speed Major Tunnel mods
Uses Specific Bell housing for the T56

have installed all three before in the 70-72 body all three are very nice setups specially with a hydraulic clutch

Any five or six speed trans that bolts in place of a Muncie will bolt to a BOP bellhousing. There are a lot of aftermarket choices. Any of them will cost upwards of $3000 by the time you complete the installation with all the ancillary parts. Will the gas savings pay for this? Not in your lifetime.

I know this is an Olds forum, I also own a 1969 GTO. Two years ago, I upgraded the Muncie M20 to a Tremec 5 Speed. I notice it has more pull in first gear, turns 1800 RPM at 70 MPH on the interstate and it is much more fun to drive. So, you will get a few more miles per gallon but you will get many many more smiles per gallon. I wish I had make the swap years ago. It did require minor modification to the floor pan. Still worth it every time I release the clutch.
