200-4R parts questions

Line pressure could be better so decided to upgrade to the .500 boost valve, can find lots of suppliers that sell the boost valve and sleeve but no regulator spring. Is this important? Second question is wanted to increase governor WOT shift point, was considering an aftermarket governor as opposed to the trial and error method of modifying the one already installed, but don't see any supplier for those right now, CK is "out of stock". I know buying an aftermarket governor could be a crap shoot as well but figured it would be a better place to start at least. Any advice appreciated

Use the pink spring from the 700 trans. If the pump is apart use a 10 vane pump, rotor, and hardened rings from a later 700. Lastly, use dual priming springs, also from a 700. Inspect the stator support tube. The factor part either isn’t heat treated, or has a lousy Rockwell hardness. Stator tubes are available from the aftermarket, but the 700 part won’t work. 😁

Sonnax sells it with a stiffer spring. What RPM are you trying to get? I shave the small weight pretty small with screw tapped in, so it doesn't pop out, puts it right around 5000 rpm.

Thanks for the reply's on the spring, I'll check those out. The pump is a 10 vane unit. For the governor I'd like to get around 5200 or so, shifts about 4600 - 4700 right now

When doing the governor it’s a good idea to have two so you can alternate. Get a baseline weight of the existing unit, note it, mod it (drill holes, grind), weigh & note it again, install it, test it. Next tweak is done to the one on the bench based off the one in the car. I used a paint scale at work for weighing to the 10th of a gram.

Strongly recommend installing a drain plug before setting out tuning gov or dialing in speedo gears. Governor is very much trial & error and the Speedo can be as well. Be sure to save a note on the weight of the gov in the car + put a tag on the spare governor noting the weight & shift point in case you do more tweaking later. I even took pics of some of the govs I’ve tuned for reference.

Thanks for the tips on the governor, seems like a sound method. Yes I keep on meaning to install a drain in my pan, should have done it years ago and saved myself a ton of aggravation and mess to deal with lol
