1970 455 with t400
New to site. Couple questions? I have a muncie 4 speed with POPO8B the other number is 30E126858. friend believes it's from and olds? has 5660 on main case casting. What got me started was i stopped by the local machine shop. Talking stories about cars that led to an old engine guy had in shop. He told me it was a 1970 W30 engine he rebuilt around 1998. Telling me about not having much money and things, we all have been there. Talked about putting it into another car and running it. Anyway, engine is complete and has a t400 attached. Problem of engine is cam is wipped. Has aluminum elderbrock and engine is grubby/run. blue in color. Pointers on figuring out what it is?

"30E126858"
3 - Oldsmobile
0 - 1970
E - Linden NJ assembly plant
126858 - last 6 of VIN
This muncie is NOT from a W30. W cars were built in Lansing code "M"
There is no way to verify the engine as a W30 without the documented car to go with it. However a to be a W30 engine, the partial VIN stamp on the block above #1 cylinder MUST have an "M" in it. Then it should have F heads, aluminum W-455 intake. It should also have the correct numbered distributor, carburetor, and camshaft. Without these parts, it is just another 455.
And if it IS a W30 engine, it really belongs in the car it came from.

The transmission had a metal tag on side. Is that were it is located. Thinking what you said about car it came out of. Will ask guy about car location? I guess i just assumed it was trashed.
