Has anyone replaced the weatherstripping on a 79-85 ?
Hey guys,
I need to replace the door/roof rail weatherstripping on my Wife's Riviera. It is the same as the Toronado and I have the Fisher body manual which gives pretty detailed instructions. Just wondering how much hassle the fixed rear window is going to be ? Looks like you basically have to remove the window and then reinstall it after the weatherstripping. I bought the Steel weatherstripping. I used their stuff on my Chevelle and was very happy with it.
Guess I am just looking for any warnings or hints before I tear it apart

Weather stripping 79 - 85 Olds
I spoke with several repair shops and most did not want to deal with removal of the quarter window and after looking at it in several ways, I decided to replace the stripping from inside the door through the roof and cut it off at the point where the quarter window is. I made sure that it matched up perfectly and used the same glue that you use to affix to the railing. In my case the stripping over the quarter window was in good shape and I would not advise in removal of the quarter window if you can avoid it.

About a half inch extended past the quarter window and I made a angular cut (right to left) and that is where I fused the two ends together. If you do it carefully, no one will ever know except for you.

I have been putting this off way too long. Only thing saving me is my Wife retired last fall so shoe doesnt have to drive her baby in the rain The headliner has started to come loose so I guess its time to start taking the interior apart. I am a glutton for punishment though, I will most likely take the Qtr window out and do the whole thing.
