1978 Toronado XS - from 1993

I was going through some old photos and discovered this. The photo was taken at the Mid-Ohio Chapter OCA annual show, which at that time was held at the Tom Gill Olds dealership in northwestern Columbus, Ohio. The date of the photo is September 19, 1993.

It's a '78 Toro XS, and it was for sale! Why didn't I buy it? Who knew that I would own one 25 years later. At this time, the car was only 15 years old and barely on anyone's "collectible" radar. I wish I had taken a photo of the For Sale sign in the window, but this was taken back in the days when cameras used actual film, and you had to pay to have it developed. I wonder what he wanted for it.

At the time I attended this show, I had one Oldsmobile, the first old Olds I ever owned, a '64 Jetstar 88. Here is one of the photos I have of it at that show. The Toronado is in the back left of the photo.

back in 1996 i was driving my 77 Toro when a fella pulled alongside at a the lights and offered to sell me an identical 78 Toro he had sitting at his home. i followed him to the house and found a rustfree running driving car in better condition than the one i had. he wanted 50bucks to take it way!! needless to say i bought it.

point being, he had the car for sale locally ($500.00) for a long time and nobody wanted it, and he just wanted to get rid of it.

This is the 77 Toro i was driving then. the 78 was identical but for the grill and plusher seats

Great story! Thanks. Amazing what you could have bought these for not that long ago. They're really not a whole lot more costly now.
