From the photo archives, 1987
I was going through some old photos and scanning them, and I happened across one showing a first-generation Toronado.
This is from August 1987. That's my son sitting the rock on the left. He was two years old at the time. This photo was taken along Lake Erie between Buffalo and Erie, PA, and my son loved watching the boats being put in the water.
That's a Toro attached to that boat trailer. It was kind of rusty and worn out, with trim missing from around the rear wheel well and paint missing from the door. But those wheels are distinctively Toronado, as is that body shape. Kind of a shame. Back then, it was just a 20-year-old used car.
Can anyone tell exactly which year it is? I'm pretty sure it's not a '68 or a '69 as the side-marker lights were not just ahead of the front wheel opening but rather were further forward with the trim around them actually wrapping around from the front, and they were thicker as well.
It's not a '66 or a '67 both because the "Toronado" script was ahead of the front fender that year, not between the wheel well and the door as in the photo, and there were no side-marker lights those years. Those weren't required until 1968.
By process of elimination, it has to be a '70.
