1985 toronado

Hi All...I am looking at an 85 oldsmobile toronado brougham. This car has a different front than the normal toronado's. it has a rolls royce type grille with toronado classic cast into the lower right bottom and has the olds decal on the middle top of the grille and has the raised olds emblem on the top of the hood. when i broke down the vin it does not differentiate from the regular front. My question is was this a rare car or was it an aftermarket deal or how was it ordered. Thanks Ron Rabena

Seems like it might just be an aftermarket grill or custom grill the current owner installed. Post a pic and someone might know what it is.

The Caliente was a trim and option upgrade, but Olds not not produce any cars with RR front ends on them. There used to be a company a couple of decades ago that did those kits/conversions for VW's, so it was probably the same company or in the same vein.

Pictures would probably help immensely, not to say that I would be able to help at all, just a suggestion.

The grille? Aftermarket, I've seen them on 3rd generation Edlos too.

I'm pretty sure I've seen what you're talking about. They show up on e-bay from time to time.

I believe a few companies supplied them to dealers and conversion outfits. I personally abhor them as the completely contradict the lines of the car. Like wearing polka dots with plaid.

The RR grille was a popular aftermarket add-on in the 1980s. You can probably remove it to uncover the stock grille if you want.

What's wrong with that?

I've seen quite a few with that grille...it was very popular back then...kind of to imitate a Cadillac I guess...lol.

If it's a Caliente it will have a unique hood ornament...not the standard Olds crest...there would be chrome accent stripes on it as well, more than came on the standard Brougham.

I really miss my Toro...wish I had it now that I'm moving back to NH...the FWD would come in handy!

Hi all....thanks for the feedback. this car is the same as the picture that Kartmaster shows in the blog. If it is a dealer add-on it would explain why it doesn't show up in the vin. any idea what the car might be worth?...Thanks ron rabena

I imagine it would be worth as much as a normal 85 Toronado would be worth in the same condition. Maybe $2000 or $3000 if it is in good condition with low miles.

Welcome to the site! Can you provide us with more detail about the current condition of the car overall and what options, mileage, etc? That would help us give you a good ballpark idea of what the car would be worth.
