In nearly forty years of building A-body Oldsmobiles, I've now found only my second build sheet. Interestingly, both times the build sheet was on top of the gas tank and both times the car was a 1971 Cutlass. The first one was a Framingham car, this one is a Fremont car. I'm stripping this one because it's too rusty to do anything with, but it's a numbers-matching Cutlass, 350 4bbl, single exhaust, TH350 car. Bench, A/C, and that's about it. I thought it was a disc brake car from the M/C, but no, some idiot "mechanic" just installed the wrong replacement M/C on a drum brake car.

Good news is that the engine is in good shape and is going in my 84 CC for now. Just going to re-gasket and throw in a timing chain, rear main, and valve seals. I'm quite proud of the fact that I walked myself off the ledge of MIGHTASWELL-ing myself into a complete rebuild - the leakdown test showed the engine to be in good shape.

You realize, of course, that with my luck I'll be pulling it out in six months when it turns out it DOES need a rebuild.

My Framingham 71 442 also had the build sheet on to of the tank..

I pulled one off the gas tank on a Framingham '67 442. Most common Framingham location that I've heard of.

My '70 Fremont car had sheet there too. And 4 months ago I found a more-door in the boneyard with the same thing except in far better condition. Literally looks like it was put there last week! Oh well, mine is still ledgible.

Once saw a '70 nose that had the build sheet stuck to the upper rear corner of the RH fender. My '72 parts car had it on top of the tank. I'm waiting for a reason to drop the tank in my '71 Framingham car.

Interesting comments, thanks. I was not aware that the top of the tank was so common a build sheet location. This one was actually taped in place. The one on the Framingham car was just sitting there.

Same thing......my 70 Fremont car's build sheet was under tank.....held there with a piece of black tape....car was a mess but the sheet looked like it had been just put there......

Found it on the top of the tank. '76 442 w/L74 455, with a small piece of tape holding it on. Very legible. Made in Arlington, Tx.

My '70 GTO (Fremont car) had the build sheet on top of the gas tank. However, my '69 4-4-2 convertible has nothing but the tank pad on top of the gas tank.

TK-65 you mention a data base? I've a 65 442, VIN 338375M421888. It's a 4spd., 3.55:1 anti-spin rear, from around Portland Oregan. Has it been registered before? Have you any information on it? Thanks.

The Fremont cars that I have owned,parted,etc.,have had the sheet above the tank.I have never found one there for a Lansing car.They have always been inside the car somewhere,or not at all.

This is probably a dumb assed question that I think I already know the answer to but I won't be sure 'til I ask.
Would the build sheet get stuck on top of the gas tank at the beginning of the chassis assembly line, to insure it gets the proper stuff. Then the completed chassis meets up with the body, and it's never to be seen again, until one of us monkey's lift the body or drop the tank?

I found mine behind the rear seat armrest [drivers side]with a 1967 penny taped to it,. it,s a fremont car , 1967 442 convertible that I have owned for, 23 years.

I found one in a 69 442 that was behind the seat back on the driver's bucket seat. Car was built in Linden NJ.

My 70 442 is a Fremont car, and the build sheet was found on top of the gas tank.....nearly perfect.

I had a 69 Chevelle SS396 that was also a Fremont car, and the build sheet was on top of the tank as well.

My first 70 was a Lansing built car. Build sheet was in bottom of rear seat and there was another sheet that was completely unreadable under the carpet on driver side just in front of where seatbelt bolts to the floor. Just pulled tank was nothing up there. Stripping for parts to use , keep or sell since frame and body twisted.
