Carbs
Hi,
my Rochester 4bbl is leaking gasoline at the rods of the choke. Is there a possibility to get this fixed? Are there any gaskets I can replace? Can I just pull the rods and get them sealed in any way?
If not, can you guys recommend any other carbs which would fit? (Like the edelbrock600cfm?)
car is sitting since almost 2 years now and I’m really annoyed with it not running...
thanks for your help.
best regards,
Kai
Oh, the car is 1952 Super 88 with the 303 and (I think) the original Rochester Quadrajet.

Not familiar with this particular carb, but wonder if there is an O-ring for the rod in question. Also, the circled area appears to me to be at the throttle rod. The choke is on the other side of the carb.

From the looks of your picture , the leak is in the throttle shaft area . The only way that could leak gas is if the shaft was flooded with gas from something above it . It's possible that you have a leaking needle/seat or a leaking gasket somewhere .
The best idea is to get a carb overhaul kit and completely dismantle the carb . Installing all the new parts in the kit . Make sure the floats (which are not included in the kit) still float and are not leaking . Carb overhaul kits are available from Fusick ;

Edelbrock carbs will bolt on this manifold , however getting the throttle linkage from both the gas pedal and the transmission linkage properly connected would be a nightmare . The trans throttle rod must be adjusted in sync with the throttle opening or the trans won't shift properly . I would not recommend installing an Edelbrock ( or any other)carb .
BTW that carb is a Rochester 4GC not a Quadrajet .

First, thank you guys for the replies.
I had the Carb at a specialist to get it overhauled. He changed all gaskets and everything... (I hope)
So I think I'll give him a call today.
ps. I thought the Carb says quadrajet on the side but thanks for letting me know that it's a 4GC
