88 Cutty Classic

I'm looking at some old threads and trying to figure out what direction to go with the gold. I like to be original but the price per can of paint is a bit of a deterant, mostly because this isnt for a restoration (Engine is going into an 85 Monte Carlo SS) . Is the POR gold the next closest at a reasonable price? Eastwood? I still want this engine to have that shocking gold appearance, especially since it will be in a Ch**y.

When you put an Olds engine into a Chevy it really doesn't matter what color paint you use. The engine will promptly turn a bright shade of red due to its embarrassment.

If I were putting it in a Chevy, I would just go to one of the auto parts stores and buy some gold engine paint I liked. It will be a lot cheaper than what you will get from Eastwood or Fusick or one of the other specialty suppliers.

Wow excuse me for not being a tool like everyone else and going lsx or sbc... Im an olds lover and ended up with my SS when my 88 Cutlass supreme classic was stolen. I couldnt find a suitable olds replacement at the time so i bought the SS. I bought a hurst the year after but have had the chevy now for 15 years. The 305 is tired and i had the olds sitting there. It actually does matter to me what shade of gold i paint this.

No apology necessary. I understand. Most of the time we see Chevy's being put in Oldsmobiles. If you want the best paint, try Bill Hirsch. The color will be the best match and the quality is very good. Here is the link:

olds 307 and 403

The Duplicolor paints look OK but goes on thin, expect multiple coats. I like it a lot, Olds powering a chebby, have one myself.

being a cutlass lover i'm just tired of seeing chevy motors in olds and wanted to get one back for team olds. i live in a chevy dominated region and want to make their heads explode. haha

I have used the POR15 Gold and it is a reasonable facsimile of the Olds Gold. I think for this application it would be a perfectly acceptable choice. Bonus is that you can buy an 89 cent cheapo brush for application.

It ends up Satin. The Metallic Black is more a Semi Gloss. It really pops over the regular, more factory correct Gold paints. It is way more durable, thicker and less finicky to apply than Duplicolor engine enamel.
