Should I get this?

Their is this Olds 350 and tranny on ebay right now thats only at $25. It looks pretty rough and he said that it had a rod knock. Its not that far from me so that is why I am considering it. Here is the link, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=370099627622

I am hoping he can get me the block and head number before the auction ends so I can see what it is.

I just got the block number, it is 395558 2. It has the crappy #8 smog heads. Is this a solid main block?

350 engine

Hi Dan
If you plan to use it sure, the price is right. I wouldn't purchase it with plans to re-sell it as the demand isn't real high for these engines. But if you want to rebuild a 350 for future use this could be a good platform to start with. Then add the earlier heads and pistons without such a deep dish. I see no reason you couldn't build it into a good motor. My 2 cents... but then I admit I'm a packrat

Thanks for your opinion. Do you know if this is a solid main block? I figure I can scrap the heads, maybe the trans also and make most, if not all of my money back.

Unless you're building a race engine, it doesn't make much difference.

I can attest to the part about not much demand. I have been trying to sell a 350 with the number 5 heads for almost a year, asking 240 and no luck.
