330 cam options

new member here.....would like to upgrade the cam/lifters/springs in my 330. it has factory valve train as of right now. i have an edelbrock performer intake as well as an edelbrock performer carb. i do understand that it is a 45 degree bank angle.

i am wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what direction i should go? right now i am considering the crane cams #790531 with a set of their hydraulic lifters and springs.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/crn-790531

not looking for anything too aggressive, just something to get it breathing a bit better and get some more power in the 1500-5500 rpm range to match the edelbrock intake power range.

i have also sent a message to cutlassefi as i have seen his name brought up in other threads about custom ground cams, hoping he gets back to me.

There is some bad info out there on cam angle of the 330. The 1967 330 is a 39 degree block.

this is a 65 330, which i am pretty sure is a 45 degree

according to this ordering guide from crane cams, the 67 330 is also a 45 degree:

http://www.cranecams.com/pdf-tech-ti...ont270-271.pdf

HOWEVER, in this chart i found on 442.com it says all 64-67 330's are 39 degree....very confused now:

YEAR CID MODEL LIFTER DIA. CAM BANK ANGLE

1964-67 330 ALL .842 39deg
1965 400 ALL .842 45deg
1965 425 ALL .842 45deg
1966-67 400 ALL .921 39deg
1966 425 exc.Toronado .842 45deg
1966-67 425 Toronado .921 39deg
1967 425 exc.Toronado .842 39deg
1968-69 400 ALL .842 39deg
1968-80 350 ALL (gas) .842 39deg
1968-76 455 ALL .842 39deg
1975-82 260 ALL (gas/dsl) .842 39deg
1977-79 403 ALL .842 39deg

From my understanding the 45* cam needs to be custom ground there is a lot of threads where members have installed off the shelf ones and it was. The 39* cam I would contact
( cutlasefi ) he is a member here and can custom grind you one per your build and it's not much more or cheaper then off the shelf cams

Spoke to a gentleman at rocket racing....they offer a full package for the 330. Cam, lifters, valve springs, timing gears & chain (roller), adjustable rocker kit, etc. Its everything I need to upgrade the cam/valvetrain the right way. Price tag comes in at $1000 for everything. And he confirmed my engine is a 45 degree. They custom grind the cam based on everything else done to my car, I feel I am in good hands with their help. He asked what bolt ons I had, stall, exhaust, tranny, intake, carb, gears and should get back to me tomorrow with the cam profile he would suggest. I will follow up on this thread when I know more.

that looks to be the 39 degree....i was looking into the edelbrock cams as well but can't seem to find anything for 45. not to say they don't offer them, might need a call into edelbrock directly to find out.

It's simply a program change, the cam cores are the same for a 39 or 45 flat tappet. However most cam companies don't want to fool with it because of the low demand.
