Oil pressure sensor too fat

I bought a set of electric (not mechanical) Gauges for my 69 cutlass 350. Problem is the oil pressure sensor is too large in diameter to fit. The location of the sensor hole is located too close to the block. I was wondering if I got a 3 inch brass extension to raise it up past the block if that would work? Or would it not read accurate?

Fyi

You can put an extension on it to raise it or a elbow that will raise it and then mount it flat. I have done both and both work fine.

Which is exactly what the factory did on cars with gauges. The factory part looks like this and is available repro, but hardware store 1/8" NPT fittings work just fine if you don't care about 100% correct appearance.

Stupid question but do they sell these units at the local carquest ? If so do any members have a part # for it for a sweep style gauge.

I ordered some fittings and adaptors, and ended up with something like this:

About 2" long, 2 female 1/8"-27 NPTF ends, a side 1/8"-27 NPTF hole, and a male to male 1/8"-27 NPTF piece for screwing one end into the block, bought it on eBay.

Your local Harley dealer might be a good source for that kind of 45°/straight brass, steel and copper NPT stuff.
