oil restrictors with high volume oil pump.

I am building a 1977 403, and I have read online a couple of times that when you put a high volume pump, or it may happen even with the standard volume, that all the oil in olds engines tends to run to the top of the motor and starves the bottom end. What do yall think about this topic and since the engine is not going to be used at the strip, strictly daily driver, should I use the oil resticors?

First question I would ask is what type of mods? Then if it's only going to be a mild daily driver why are you putting in a High Volume pump? For that application you don't need it IMO.

I put a HV oil pump in my Olds for the same reason (simply to have it). However, I put in a Milodon deep sump pan as well. I wouldn't run a HV oil pump without a deep sump pan.

86pontiac your cart was empty.

I'm with olds64. At least the 5 qt from Milodon would be good. My first build was a stock pan with restrictors on a mild motor with a HV pump. Didn't need it, won't do it again.

Ok, so, what I have read is that unless you are running an engine at upwards of 5000 rpm, or high horsepower racing, then there is no need for oil restrictors. So therefore I could run a high volume pump, to ensure qaulity oiling, and a 5qt pan so I dont suck it dry. Anybody who doesnt think this is good please tell me otherwise.

I wouldn't run a HV oil pump without the deep sump pan. The Milodon and Moroso deep sump pans are 7 quart. IMHO the Milodon is worth the extra $30.

You're not really going to use that hydraulic roller for a daily driver are you?

If it's the one I'm looking at it says Hydraulic roller for a Pontiac. Maybe I'm mistake but that's what shows up when I click on the link. The picture is a flat tappet but the description is for a roller. It better be for $739.95!

Just my opinion but if you are running stock (snug) bearing clearances then the stock pump will be more than adequate, Just check pan to pickup clearance and having the pickup tacked in place is cheap insurance.
