I assume this is too loose. New Cloyes. Block was line-honed but machinery told the centerline wasnt moved enough to warrant use of "line-honer" timing chain set.... They told few other things too.

I dunno. This new surprise traces back to machinery #1, they already have angle-milled conrod big-ends without proper side clearance and cylinder block decks which were milled all over the place, compression varying over 0.5:1 from "best to worst". Yes, i did change machinery. Just wondering how they got their reputation..

olds 307 and 403

Looks better than the Cloyes Street roller set they thankfully discontinued. It will probably be fine for many miles as is. How many degrees does it move before the rotor does? My Street roller looked worse, especially after miles but was only 1.5 degrees before the rotor moved.

About 1 degree at the crank. I ordered the .005" under set. Some thing is way off, by multiple measurements i came to conclusion that marks zeroed my cam was 6.5 degrees retarded vs cam card. I suspect the cam, but thats not a problem with 9-keyway set.
Was actually surprised, but thats why you measure it.

Did you try it with the cam bolt tightened up ?? Probably wont make much difference on an Olds but can make a big difference on a Chevy sometimes. That does look a little loose but probably would not be a problem. Just make sure the -.005 one isn't too tight. My experience has been that its very rare to need the "short" chain.

It was same when cam bolt wasnt tightened. I already had tore it down and got an idea to take a video of it, so just slammed it together for that purpose. Will see how the .005" set fits, when i get it to my hands.

Ive never seen cam-in-block timing chain, only tore them apart, so i have not actually any reference how this should look and feel. I just thought thats pretty much for that short chain.
