High frequency noise
Hello Gents,
last year I swapped my engine when the old one blew up.
When the new engine is running, approx. a few seconds after its running I have a very high frequent tone, you here it while driving. It doesnt sound mechanical, it sounds like the sort of cheap trafos. It is totally disturbingly.
All aggregates have been overtaken from my old engine.
What I know: it is not rpm related. It is always the same.
It is not from the aggregates. I loosen the belt to check for a few seconds, still there. It is not from vacuum, all carb exits are plugged. I cant locate it proper, but when driving it seems to come from the passenger side.
My guess was first the ignition coil, but everybody here tells me that a coil cant do this kind of noise.
So, I have no more ideas and hope that someone had a similar problem and the solution....:-)
thanks, marc

Marc, you mentioned that you loosen the belt and the noise is still there. Did you loosen all the belts? The engine can run for a short time without the water pump circulating coolant.
Also, try to id the noise with a mechanic's stethescope.

Does the car have to be moving to get the sound? Maybe find a long stretch of traffic free road and coast with the engine on and off with the trans in neutral. Could be wind related. Just guessing, good luck.
